New Mariah Owner
1 Attachment(s)
Purchased the 1998 Z260 I did not buy late last year. PO even delivered and launched it for me. The boat is in very good condition and came on a custom built Champion trailer. Has 7.4 MPI Bravo III. Just needed some cleaning up and a little TLC. Just took it for a short ride and did not open up as tach was not working properly, tach fixed since then but weather went bad and have been working on boat shed and lift as old lift did not have enough capacity to pick this one up. It is now back on the trailer and hope to lauch it again in about a week and put it through it's paces to see what she will do as far as top end, cruising speed and get used to how it handles. Attached a picture of it tied up in back yard, will post more pictures when I take some. Can't wait to spend some time on this boat.

Re: New Mariah Owner
Hi Ranger1Tom,
Thanks for the compliment on the boat. Mariah made a great boat with all the bells and whistles you should enjoy yours when you can get out. This past weekend was the first real taste of winter we have had and to you it would pobably be considered warm as it was 30 degrees in the morning and warmed up to 46. I mowed the yard on Sunday as it has greened up and was growing. I am hoping this is the last of our winter here in South Louisiana. If I can get the crew together we will roof the boat shed and I can put the boat back inthe water and on the lift so as soon as we get a good day can take her out and burn some high priced gas. |
Re: New Mariah Owner

Re: New Mariah Owner
Chris, thanks for the welcome. I have been checking out the Forum for a few months since I started looking at the Z260. Found a lot of usefull info to help me make the decision to purchase and have made some minor fixes from info on here.
Dredd, thanks for the welcome and comment on the back yard. Moved here about 4 years ago. Living on the water has always been my dream and since we moved here it has been great. Presently building new boat house with lift for the Z260 to live in. Being able to walk outside, get in the boat a go for a ride is wonderful. Captain Steve, thanks for the rocks. The name was from the previous owner and was Woopie Tolliat. My wife hated it so it has been removed, but we have not re-named her yet, |

Re: New Mariah Owner
Thanks Dockwrecker,
Just finished the boat house and have her hanging. She is in pretty great shape for her age and wife and I are really enjoying the boat. I bought her from a guy who had her since 2,000, he took pretty good care of her. What top speed are you running? I put her through a shake down in the lake and on a 2' chop I saw 41.6 MPI on the GPS at 4600 RPM. That was everything she had. On calm water will run 40.4 tops. Crusies real comfortable at 30 - 32 MPH. But for now not going anywhere as she will not start. Seems to be a problem in the fuel system and the ECM is not kicking on the fuel pump solonoid. Jumped the fuel pump and it runs. I have checked every wire and did a full trouble shoot per the manual. Everything leads me back to a bad ECM. The closest dealer is 56 miles away and no local mechanics know anything about this engine .Plan was to haul her to the dealer but I really do not want to tow her to the launch and try to crank her on the trailer. Then would have to borrow a truck as the company just made a new rule about towing personal trailers with the company truck and that's all I have. I am waiting on a Scan Tool I ordered to come in and I will hook up and trouble shoot one more time. Had a thread running a while back and received alot of advice and information from the members but still no start. Have yor every had any problems? |
Re: New Mariah Owner
Chris,
I had a couple of more thoughts from your previous thread. Have you double checked the multiple power and ground wires at the ECM connector? If it is missing any of these it could be the cause of your no start/fuel pump problems. Check that you have good solid grounds on J1-14 and J1-30 (black wires with white stripes). Check that you have solid battery voltage at J1-11 (pink/blk) with the key on and J1-16 and J1-32 (both Orange) key on or off. MPI motors are great when they run but tough to troubleshoot when the don't. Happy hunting. Steve |
Re: New Mariah Owner
Hi Steve,
Performed check on each socket on both J-1 and J-2. Every thing checked out except J-2-26. Manual does not indicate any voltage reading and with the J-2 unplugged from the ECM J-2-26 is carring 10 volts. J-2-26 is for the Audio warning buzzer and the buzzer does not sound when ignition switch is turn on. Did trouble shoot buzzer and it is good. Hopefully the Scan Tool will indicate a trouble code and lead to something and hopefully not the ECM. |
Re: New Mariah Owner
Hi Chris, No I have not had any problems at all with the motor, replaced plugs wires and rotor last summer because I had a skip in it, found a plug wire had a hole burned in it but no problems at all.

Re: New Mariah Owner
My son just bought a 1993 180 Diablo - what a beautiful boat for it's age - I am quite impressed. We are getting it checked out, but it looks well taken care of. This is a great community you have here!

Re: New Mariah Owner
Glad to know there is another member from South Louisiana on here. I frequent Lakes Maurepas and Ponchatrain. Send me a note if I can help with anything.
Happy Boating Dan |
Re: New Mariah Owner
Hi Dan,
I usually stay around Stevensville area and sometime toward the coast. Just got back from vacation today and Scan Tool came in. Hooked it up to the connector on the engine and it does not communicate with the ECM. It gives a check connection note. Checked all wires from the connector to the ECM and all check out. The grounds are grounded the power wires have power, the connections are good. I need to talk to someone who has experience with the Scan Tool. Maybe some one here has had experience with the Mercruiser Scan Tool, if so any info would be appriciated. |
