Wonder if someone can help me. I have a 1996 Z235 MAriaha. It has a 7.4L Brovo 1. I need a distributor and coil and the the salesman at West Marine ask if it was a Thu8nderbolt or 5 HEI. How do I determune what this is, No markings on the motor.

Re: Engine designation

Best thing to do is find the Mercruiser serial number of the motor. Believe it is located on the starboard side of the engine, on the bell housing near the starter. Once you have the serial number you can answer any part guy's questons.

If you can't find the serial number plate then is the motor carburated or fuel injected (MPI)?

You can find the Mercruiser part number at any number of sites that have parts look ups such as this one </TITLE> <script type="text/javascript"> if (window.ColdFusion) ColdFusion.required['Keyword']=true; </script> <script type="text/javascript"> </script> </HEAD> <html> <head> <title>Doug Russell Marine - Parts Catalog
