Boat motor wont stay turned over
I own a 2006 19x mariah. Have owned it for 4 years no problems.. Put in water 2 weeks ago motor would turn over but wouldnt catch. Fuel is getting to the motor and it sounds like it wants to stay cranked but as soon as I let off the key it dies back out. Any suggestions?

Re: Boat motor wont stay turned over
So your saying it sort of runs while you keep the starte engaged? But as soon as you stop with the starter it dies out?

Re: Boat motor wont stay turned over
Yes, turn the key sounds like it wants to start but then as soon as i let off the key when it would normally turn over and start right up it dies out. If i try to give it gas while starting it just boggs itself down and shuts off. We tried it till the battery died.. Recharged but didnt try again just pulled it back out of the water. Heading back down this weekend to work on it more. Any ideas? Ignition Coil maybe need replacing?

And no im sorry it wont run at all.. Sounds like it will turns over like normal but as soon as I let off the key where it would normally stay running it shuts off. Hope that answers what your asking.

Re: Boat motor wont stay turned over
I know this may sound ridiculous but have you checked & confirmed the kill switch is in the 'run' position? We've had two members here in the last year try & try & try to start their motors only to find the switch was turned off or wasn't functioning correctly.

Re: Boat motor wont stay turned over
Yes we checked that. I'm so sad I've owned this boat for 4 years, started up like a charm everytime and this is the first time it wont start.

Re: Boat motor wont stay turned over
If the kill switch is fine I would check for spark if you have someone you don't like let them hold a philips head screw driver in the spark plug boot while you turn it over. Or a test the right way for spark, to me sounds like no fire from your info. Let us know what else you find good luck.
