Stupid Question: Starting my Z272 Barchetta
Hey guys,
First time boat owner and it seems like my boat takes too many key cranks to start. Am I giving it too much gas? Too little? The boat is a 95 z272 with the throttle separate from the shifter. I have been pushing the throttle up about 2 inches when trying to start, and going back and forth sometimes. Do I need to be priming the throttle more? I just dont want to flood it. Any info is appreciated! Thanks and sorry for the dumb question. Joe |
Re: Stupid Question: Starting my Z272 Barchetta
Not really a 'dumb' question... my particular motor requires that i pump the throttle fully twice then set it at 1/4 throttle on a cold start and just set it at a 1/4 throttle for a warm start.

Re: Stupid Question: Starting my Z272 Barchetta
Mine is the same as Mikeys on my 502 mpi it needs a couple pumps when cold so she fires right up and one to about 1/4 when warmed up.

Same here, 2 pumps 1/4 open. 7.4 Carb model

Re: Stupid Question: Starting my Z272 Barchetta
EFI/MPI or carbed? I used to pump carbed engines a good bit depending on the condition of it all. Most people dont remember the old days of carbed cars and how they had to pump them. Darkcalling... No reason for you to pump a MPI.

Lol tell my 502 that, it likes a little pumping for some reason never thought an injected engine would but it starts easier if I give it a couple, easier on the starter

As for the OP, I'd echo the others' advice. Pump it first to get some gas in the carb. |
Re: Stupid Question: Starting my Z272 Barchetta
I noticed I have to give mine a little gas on a cold start but after its warmed up I dont need to.

Re: Stupid Question: Starting my Z272 Barchetta
Strange on the EFI/MPI needing pumped for sure as it is computer controlled and not manually controlled. I have never pumped my EFI but it will take 3-4 seconds to hit if it hasnt been run in a few weeks. If its been run in a week it will hit almost instantly every time.
