Upholstery Question
I'm trying to locate a similar fabric to the stuff thats behind all the cushions. Does anyone know what its called or know of a source for it? I'm not too concerned about it having Mariah printed on it(although it would be nice).
I just built a new sundeck and this is all thats holding me up. Thank You ~J |
I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for, the vinyl fabric? Mariah used an incredibly heavy grade vinyl, almost 3x as thick as the competitors were using. If that's what you're looking for, let me know and I can pull up the specs on the vinyl fabric. I know it was also treated with PreFixx, a "stain guard" material as well. The chances of finding it printed with the Mariah logo are pretty much impossible. Mariah "branded" parts are incredibly hard to come by these days. You could probably get an upholstery shop to do it for you, but it definitely would not be cheap.
Let us know specifically what you're looking for and we'll see if I can point you in the right direction. If you have any pics, those would help too. |
Wow, I did not know about mariah using the heavy grade vinyl in their boats. That is interesting to know.

hi jmills224,
Are you referring to the cloth mesh directly underneath the vinyl, or the vinyl on the button of your seats and cushions? Any pictures would help too. Thanks, WetWilly |
WetWilly,
I am referring to the cloth mesh that is on the underneath side of the upholstered piece. I will try to get some pictures uploaded this afternoon. Thank You, ~J edit: picture added http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...iah_fabric.jpg Quote:

Hello Group,
This is just an update. I've got a call in to Mariah to see if they still use this fabric. Maybe some of the members with newer Mariah's can chime in ;) If Mariah no longer uses it, I did find this stuff which I think is the same stuff w/o the logo: http://www.rochfordsupply.com/produc..._ProdID_E_3661 Hopefully this might help someone else out! Thank You ~J |
Hi jmills224
Looks like you found a perfect alternative!! Polyester's waterproof so it makes a perfect material for boats. Contacting "New" Mariah was a great idea too! Let us know what they say! WetWilly |
On my '06 model that fabric is not used, it is kind of similar but no embossing of "Mariah" on it.
And I very much doubt if the marine vinyl is of the same quality that the older ones have. :( |
Re: Upholstery Question
yes and who manufactured the fabric on those cussions??

Re: Upholstery Question
I realize this is not the fabric that you are asking about but if anyone reads this thread and is looking for the correct vinyl for original Mariah boats the closest vinyl is nautalex colorguard line. It is the same quality but better and has the original stain and scuff resistance coatings as the original. Their colors and grain were an exact perfect match for my original vinyl. I found it at Gary's upholstery in Florida. Super guy. He may have the under fabric too, just call him and ask. I cleaned what was on mine as it was not torn or damaged and wiped completely clean VERY easily with cleaner.

Re: Upholstery Question
By chance does anyone know the color names for the newer Marian's? I have a 2006 sx21 and need some upholstery work done. I'm replacing the white and gray upholstery in the bow.

Re: Upholstery Question
I am in the process of getting most of my vinyl redone right now. I didn't realize this but the quote i received included that fabric beneath the seats that aren't always in a fixed position. My transom cover, rear seats and bow seats all have that mesh type of fabric on the underside. The upholstery shop I am working with refers to this material as textaline. I haven't done any research where to buy it since he is including it.
If it is helpful to anyone I am working with Archie at Copycat Upholstery. I have read a lot of review on them both positive and negative. Most of the negative ones seemed to be related to poor communication but those threads were all old. It looks to me like that has improved on their end. Since I am new to the boating world and don't have any upholstery experience I have had a lot of questions. Their response has been same day or following day so far on everything. They just received my old upholstery yesterday and immediately called me to let me know they had it and discuss next steps and timeline. I should have my new set back in about 10 days which to me is very impressive. I think since I sent them out before the cold season started they probably had down time to work on it right away. He told me once people start pulling their boats out of the water they get backed up so I took advantage to get my replacements back quickly. I will post an update once i receive everything back and let everyone know what i think about the quality of the reproduction. |

Re: Upholstery Question
Yes. But I cheated. I run my family business that my dad started 25+ years ago. We have a Upholstery shop and make custom made furniture for Decorators, Architects and home builders. Also do a lot of antique restoration and upholstery. Funny thing is we never work on small boats (only yachts) or cars. Fabricating all the wood and and dealing with all the marine grade materials/ hardware was a mission and made me understand why my dad never liked upholstering boats. I'm upholstering the side panels and working on the front seats now. If you guys want to see some of our work check us out on Instagram it's Milano Upholstery.
