What are these wires?

I'm attempting to replace the cassette player with a cd player. I found a harness not connected to anything along with these 4 wires, again not connected. What do the lables mean?http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-29-18_653.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-29-31_440.jpg

Those were inside my console too and I have no idea either. I do appreciate the wires being labeled though.

Interesting. Now I have a strange problem. All I did was cut the red and black wires off the stock harness and wire them to my new harness for the CD player. Nothing. No voltage or anything. Then I wire them back to the stock connector and hook plug the factory tape deck, nothing. Completely dead.

Know where there is a fuse I can check? I looked at the fuses under the dash, and all are good. The tape deck worked right before I unplugged it!

This is frustrating, I don't even know where to start since I'm not even sure what happened.

When I wired my new cd player I just probed to find a constant hot and keyed hot wire. It takes awhile but I know it's right.

Got it.....bad connections. Just needed the connections cleaned, now all is well.

Those wires look like your speaker wires. Bulkhead port and starboard.

I've only got 4 speakers, and they were labeled stb forward speaker, or something like that. They do look like speaker wire though.

I ran into the same issue when I wired my stereo. My 1996 Shabah only had four factory speakers as well. I am guessing that what your looking at is another OEM speaker harness for those Mariah models with more than four speakers. My theory is that to keep production costs down,Mariah used universal wiring harnesses for all their boat. But I could be wrong and this post was just a waste of time.

I saw those extra speaker wire labels too. The previoud owner had them hooked up in series with the other speaker wire. I don't know where they go because I don't have any speakers in the bow or aft. Perhaps it is pre-wired for future installation. I haven't looked yet because it won't get above 60 degrees here in Wisconsin and we have a freeze warning tonight in Madison.

I have a trip with the boys planned for June 11th to Fox Lake (just north of Chicago). I hope we break 70 by then. I can't wait to retire and move to Colorado or Florida.

Re: What are these wires?

I have what looks like the same thing, extra pair of speaker wires, found them this weekend while re-stitching all the console & radio wiring.

I have the 1996 Shabah 180.

I have only 4 speakers installed, but 6 sets of wires that are all original (but the labels are missing), stitched right into the harness conduit so they aren't after market. Your labels look like the original factory labels, so I bet you have the same thing.

Good clue for the speaker wire is that they have clear insulation, and you should notice, if you look hard enough, the of the pair one is silver (negative) and one is gold (posotive), if memory serves.

I also have other originaly installed cabling for accessories not installed, such as docking lights and wipers. Looks to me like they just used a default wiring harness regardless of the actually installed accessories.

Hope that helps!

Chris

This is correct. It is common for companies to use one wiring harness for multiple configurations. Automotive companies do this all the time. I see it a lot in Ford's. :)
