Trial Run

Took my boat out today just to see if everything is working good. I bought this boat (our first and only boat) last september so this was the 6th time I have had it out. I installed a new 3 blade 21p apollo SS prop this week to replace my 19p aluminum. My son also took his celebrity 220 out today also. I have a 1999 Mariah shabah Z 212 with a 5.7L. started runnin my mouth a little and told my son he would be used to lookin at the transom of my boat today seeing as how I would probably out run him with my new prop..... well it did outrun his And oh was I impressed with my new found speed but then it happened... My boat died and could not get it started. this aint the first time and i thought I had it figured out. Last season I replaced distributer cap roater, coil, filter, gas line. next I think I will replace fuel pump, After that if that wont fix it I will give up and take it to a mechanic. Imagine my embarrasment when he smiles and asked me (after about 2 miles) how I like the looks of his transom. Not real funny but I guess it is a little... guess that'll teach me to run my mouth.... Wellllll maybe not. Still had a good time on the water

I got towed in one time by a friend in their sailboat with a 5hp outboard! I feel your pain. And it was a chic to boot!

She has not let me live that one down, as Im sure your son will remember yesterday very well for years to come!

Last time i heard about a boat dying like that....the operator spent the better part of an hour examining the engine only to find out he accidentally hit the kill switch... :)

Now you got me to wondering I didnt check the switch but it did start a couple of times just for a few seconds so surely that wasnt the problem. Im gonna try to get it in to get it checked out anyway, my choke wont work either. when it goes beyond just changin parts and usin my brain im in over my head. I did buy his lunch today so maybe he wont rib me too much.... wait I always buy

I had a similar experience this weekend. Took my boat out on a lake got it off the trailer then started to idle away from the dock only to hear it sputter and die. Took me 2 hours to find a tow back and a swim in the 50 degree water when we hit shore only to figure out I didn't let it warm up properly. Got it started back at the dock by holding the choke off and having my girlfriend turn the key. Ran great after that!! Note to self: Let you boat warm up before leaving the dock.

Re: Trial Run

Well I got back to my boat, it was suggested I get rid of the anti-syphon valve coming out of the tank so I did that. checked for spark and had that, took off gas line into carb turned the key and had gas pump out so time to try it.... The choke doesnt really work unless you close it by hand... did that, turned the key cranked it over and whalah started right up. I then let it warm up a little brought up RPMs at its purrin like a kitten. I looked down into the carb and noticed water droplets inside. going to add a couple bottles of sea foam hopin to remedy that. A buddy of mine swears it is probably vapor locking. I may have several things going on at once but Im takin it out this weekend along with a few tools. I still think I will try to get it in to a good mechanic when he gets an opening. any one else have any experiance with vapor locking and any remedies I can try.

I am happy to report that my efforts paid off this weekend, We went sat, sunday and mon the boat ran great. I'm not sure whether the sea foam or getting rid of the anti-syphon fitting coming out of the tank was the cure for my problems but knock on wood they seem to be gone
