I was going to go over them with a wire brush and see if I can clean up that area. But where I found them, there were no wires there either.

The worst thing you can do in this case is "Wire Brush" the aluminum and stainless. This will actually embed steel flakes / particles into the Aluminum and Stainless finish and you will forever chase the corrosion. The formentioned "scotch-brite" should be as agressive as you will want to get. Also be careful with some of the polshes as they too are abrasive and will eat away at the finish.

Definitely. After talking to the guys at the company, they said the exact same thing. NEVER use a wirebrush for something like this. ScotchBrite is apparently the hardest material one should use.

Thanks guys, that is really helpful. Shame about the wirebrush though... ;)
