Buy or not? 1999 Z252

Thinking about buying a 1999 Z252 with around 300 hours and 7.4 fuel injected Volvo with duo prop. Boat looks clean but certain things like stereo not installed and speedometer not working kinda raise red flags. I am going to get engine and outdrive tested before purchasing. The guy wants 11500....what do you guys think?

Welcome! Sounds like a nice boat. Stereo and speedo aren't major issues. Stereos don't usually last the life of a boat, too much water/humidity. Speedo's get clogged with debris all the time, chances are that's all the problem is. Price doesn't sound bad at all for that size... but it all depends on condition, location, what's included (trailer, electronics, engine/drive combo, options, etc.). Good luck!!

That is a good price. I'm thinking about selling mine in the spring (97 Z252 with about 350 hours) and was looking to get more. As Indykoch says speedo and stereo are not issues. My speedo still works. Stereo's gone and I'll replace that if I keep the boat. I have a 7.4 merc with carb and duo prop outdrive. Thing moves right along given it's weight. No problem getting skiers up even with 10 people in the boat. Some things to look at: on the rear deck - if you have one hydraulic lift look for wear on the hinges. I have to reattach to sets of hinges this winter as they've been pulled out due the lift pushing 1 side and the other side binding. Didn't notice that when I bought the boat. I'll add an standard lift arm on the side to assist. Also the nav lights, especially the automatic white list, need constant attention. If I keep the boat, all get replaced with led fixtures and I'll remount them all. Tach gets sticky so I fumble with that to keep it loose. I added a GPS so speed and Tach aren't much of an issue to me.

Good luck!

I have a 1996 Z252 that I bought last summer. 7.4 fuel injected, 348 hours double bimini, bravo 3 drive. I gave $14000 and could of made $1,000 within 3 days of buying it. Awsome boat, love how it handles, great power and does everything you ask it to do. The only thing that might be a negative is the size of the bathroom. (very small) but what a well built boat.
