broken captains seat
I have a captains chair in my Mariah, which has a broken base, not the metal stand, but the base, ie under the cushion. Does anyone have any suggestions how to repair it? Or someone that could repair it for me, either in the Lake Gaston NC/VA area or Annapolis MD area. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: broken captains seat
If you mean the fibreglass base then i would suggest taking it to an automotive body shop that specializes in fibreglass repair. There aren't many options here....

Re: broken captains seat
My father had the same problem with his seat, if indeed your problem is with the fiberglass. He took it to a body shop and $300 later you can't tell were the crack was, well worth the money for those seats.

Re: broken captains seat
I had my shell break early when the boat was only a couple years old, so I ordered an extra shell when Mariah was still in business. Now the replacements are cracking also. Probably will go with a different captains chair this time, aftermarket or order one from a boat line that is still in business. I don't plan on selling my Mariah, so keeping it totally original isnt that big of an issue to me.

Re: broken captains seat
I would be interested in buying your old chairs when you upgrade.

Re: broken captains seat
Well, just to let you know, I found someone who happened to have posted on Craigslist, that was able to repair my seat. It was an awful lot cheaper than a new seat. He was in Hanover, Richmond VA area.
Put it back in the boat last weekend and took the boat out on the lake. Bliss to have a comfortable seat! Should have done it two seasons ago!! |
Re: broken captains seat
Glad to hear that the repair worked for you. :wink_thumbup:

Re: broken captains seat
My wife was sitting on the headrest on port side and cracked the base of it 2 years back.
With a friend that knows figerglassing, he and I did the repair for less than $100. It really isn't that complicated and likely lots of videos on YouTube, just in case you need to do this. |
