Wanting carpet
 

I have a 98 182 shabah that dosen't or never did have carpet in it. I have saw pictures on other threads of similar boats with carpet that looked really nice. I was wondering how big of a job this really is. It seems kind of simple but this is coming from someone who has never installed carpet into anything. Also I need to know what kind of carpet will hold up and what kind of glue to use to hold it down. Also how hard would it be to get the glue back off, if in the future I decide I dont want it anymore?

Marine grade carpeting (& glue) is available at most major marine vendors (iboats.com, Overtons, Bass Pro etc) and can be a little finicky to install & have it look right. Seats have to come out & you will have to figure out how to hide the edges if you are gluing down the carpet. Removing the carpet & glue later is a nasty job.

I might be more inclined to consider installing snap-in carpeting and avoid the hassle. You could do the patterning & install the snaps yourself & have someone bind the carpet edges for you before you install it.

Snap-in carpet (or lay-in) carpet may be the best for you. I had my carpet made from something called Aqua-Lock, which has a thicker backing, and is guaranteed to stay down up to speeds of 70mph. It's what comes standard in Fountain boats. No snaps, very clean looking. I had it made from a custom canvas shop here in town.
