outdrive trim problem
I have a 1996 18ft Shabah which I bought late last year. Have just got it out of winter storage, battery connected but outdrive will not raise. When trim down selected, drive goes down but when trim up selected nothing happens. Battery seems to have enough power to turn over engine but - when trim up selected - nothing happens. Drive is now "fully down" with result I can't move boat. Any advice / help would be much appreciated.

Re: outdrive trim problem
First of all: You don't use trim up to put the outdrive in trailering mode. On the lower right, as you face it, or lower back, if you will, of your throttle control group is a button. You press that one to raise the outdrive to its trailering position.
The trim up control will allow you to raise the outdrive only 50%, which is the maximum safe trim up while operating. The trailering switch allows it to be raised all the way. Now, as to your problem. In most cases where trim up fails it's the trim sensor mounted on the outdrive. If that sensor's not working, the system can't tell how high the drive is, so it would let you raise it with trim up. You'll likely have to have that replaced. Jim |
Re: outdrive trim problem
Jim,
Many thanks for such a prompt response. I'll try that when I get home from work today. Very frustrating from the point of view of a 'newbie' to Mariah's but it's really great to have a User Club made up of people who really like the boat and who clearly want to help others. Again, my thanks. Peter |

Jim,
Again, my thanks. Outdrive works as advertised. Much relief in household. Best regards, Peter |

Re: outdrive trim problem
Jim,
Haven't tried it in the water yet. Bit busy at work this week but should be able to launch this weekend. But, from a trim "working" point of view, all looks good. Best regards, Peter |
