New Member needs a little help

Hi All I am new to this site.

My uncle has a 1997 Mariah Jubilee with the Volvo 5.7. He did not use the boat last season. It is stored in dry heated storage, with his other boat and toys. I finally convinced him to take it out this season, as I would like to get use of it, he lives on a large lake that is great for boating.

I got it out of storage, gave it a good wash.

We replaced the battery (old one would not hold a charge)

I can not get the engine to kick over, It sounds like it wants to but never fully does.

There is about 1/2 tank of gas that is probably over a year old. I am figuring that the gas has broken down and will need to be taken out.

My question is what is the best way to go about doing this (siphon from filler neck?) ?
- What is the tank capacity?
- Where is the tank located?
- is the 5.7L volvo a carbed or FI engine?

Any other thoughts as to why it will not turn over?

Thanks!!

I'll assume you are talking about a 214 deckboat. Fuel tank capacity is 72gals and yes fuel that is at least a year old & possibly wasn't treated with Sta-bil (or something similar) has likely gone bad & will gum up the fuel delivery system. As for the start problem....are you sure the kill switch is in the 'On' position? The gas tank & access point is likely located under the rear seating. The 5.7 is likely a carbed version but its not difficult to tell by looking at it.

Same info applies. Hopefully someone with a Jubilee will chime in here.

Do you mean it won't fire, or won't turn over? Because bad gas isn't stopping the motor from turning over.

When i couldn't get my Jubilee to fire there was no powewr coming to the coil. I had to take the fuse panel out ( on mine is by the floor by my right foot) dug in there and found the purple wire that runs to the coil had come apart. Just an idea.:wink_thumbup:

You need to find out whether it is the ignition or fuel. Squirt a touch of gas into the carb and see if you get a quick turnover, starter fluid spray will give you the same effect. If the engine fires for a couple revs then you need to look at the fuel system.. Fuel pump, anti siphon valve, carb fouled.. If it does not fire at all then the ignition system needs to be looked at.
