1993 350 mag makes growling noise
I just started my 93 shabah 2110 for the first time in two years. I changed all fluids hooked her up yo water she fired up right away running smooth water temp and oil pressure were good and then a growling sound started coming from engine. There isn't any rod knock that is typical of a spun bearing. Any thoughts to how bleak my situation or any thoughts of encouragement would be helpful.

Remove the belt and start it to eliminate alternator, water pump etc. Could be a bearing in one of those. Don't run it too long. If it's a Bravo it could be the raw water pump.

I wouldn't think rust or debris would do that. You said that temps are normal, this should indicate that the impeller is in working order. Could possibly be a gimble bearing going bad. Given the boat hasn't been run for two years I would suspect a bearing of some sort. Grease the gimble and see if you notice a change in sound.

Re: 1993 350 mag makes growling noise
If the growing sound changes as you steer the drive back and forth underway it's very likely your gimbal.

I agree, probably gimbal bearing and/or U-joints.

Re: 1993 350 mag makes growling noise
Thanks everyone for the info found out today by a mechanic that it is definately the gimbal going to have it replaced got a quote for 200.00 to fix parts included. That sounds like a fair deal to me

Re: 1993 350 mag makes growling noise
That's actually quite cheap!! Since he'll need to remove the drive anyway, you may want to have the u-joints and bellows replaced at the same time. It'll cost a little more, but save you in the long run since you won't need to pay the labor of removing the drive 2 or 3 times over a couple years.

Definately going to replace all the boat has less than100 hrs on her she just sat exposed to the elements for several years so I'll gladly spend the extra money now.
