Re: Specs for '98 Mariah 246 Talari
Thank you Chris! This is the info I need, is there anywhere I could possibly get a copy of that or have one to print?
Here's the problem. The people we sold the boat to put it in 3' of water, started it, then asked us why it was overheating. Now, they're talking to an attorney because they claim we didn't "de-winterize" it properly. I'd like them to see how deep it drafts because I believe they may have sucked up some mud and burned up the impeller. The bill of sale says "AS IS, NO WARRANTY" so I don't quite know what they're wanting us to do... Oh well, the specs will help, thanks again! Feel free to comment, I need some reassurance on this one... |

"de-winterize" ??? I cant think of anything to do to 'de-winterize' an engine.....
If the impeller hasn't been replaced in 3yrs then it is quite possible that it has dried out to the point of fracturing when it is first started up in the spring. |

Mikey,
Yeah the problem is obviously with the impeller. The guy said he replaced it and now it won't go into gear. He called us when it started overheating and we told him not to run it hot and he needed to get it to a shop. He said he was running it wide open, I don't know how long, he could have either damaged the throttle cables to the point of melting or he may have inadvertantly damaged them when he replaced the impeller himself. Either way, we sold it "AS IS", it's not really our problem, right? Thanks, C:confused: |

Re: Specs for '98 Mariah 246 Talari
Ya I wouldn't sweat this one. AS IS spells it out. They had the option of sea trialing it first didn't they? It would take real A$$ of a judge to hit you with any fault.
Why thehell did they run it WOT when the saw it was over heating? The alarm should've been going off like cray. |
Re: Specs for '98 Mariah 246 Talari
Oh I hope you're right. We sold it in December and we included in the purchase agreement that we'd 'de-winterize' it and "...motor would start and run". We hooked everything up, with the buyers present. We started it briefly, it popped right over, like we thought it would. He said everything looked good, we shook hands and we parted ways. I called him right after we left and asked if they'd like to take it down to the river, just to be sure, and he said he said no. Then he called when it started overheating, but I have no idea if that happened right away or after they had it out for awhile and I don't know how long it was overheating, etc. It's not really my problem. Agreement clearly states all repairs are the responsibility of the buyer except for the 'de-winterizing' and making sure the motor started and ran. It did, and I was released from obligation at that point.
Ugh... I could have dealt with a million other buyers and wouldn't have had a problem. Still frustrating. Thanks everyone. Has anyone else ever had a buyer get ugly with them? Thanks! C :shakehead: Honestly, I'm more p*ssed that they hurt my baby! I didn't want to sell her! |
Re: Specs for '98 Mariah 246 Talari
People love to lie about what they were doing before things went boom. I had a person back when that came into the shop I was working. We just re-powered the boat as the old engine was shot. They came in two months later telling us the starter was shot and we must have done something wrong in the install. We asked about the situation when it went. They told us they were in the ocean fishing and when they went to start it it would not. Well after a new starter install I heard the loud cank that comes from trying to start up a locked up engine. After looking further into it the engine was seized. We pulled the heads and every water jacket was filled with baked mud. The new engine was a total wash. We asked how they could have ingested River Mud in the ocean... well at that point the story changed :shakehead:.. Moral of the story, dont relent on it. They most likely ran into mud as you said, the as-is clause is on your side as well. Good luck

Thanks ggrims,
Weird how the story always changes when the damage can speak for itself. I get really tired of people not wanting to take responsibility for their own actions. DUMB. |
