First time out with new smart tabs

1 Attachment(s)
So I took out my 2000 182 Shabah yesterday in the Mount Hope Bay in Rhode Island to test out the smart tabs I installed last weekend. I bought the 60lb tabs based on feedback from this site and set them on the second hole (second lightest pressure) to start because I was not going to take the boat in and out for trial and error with my guests on board ( my wife, daughter, brother and sister in law). I definitely like them. Low speed wander is all but gone. Time to plane is nothing, even with 5 adults and a full tank of gas. The porpoising is gone, too. Handling in 1-2's was excellent. Hard to tell on top end with the weight I had on board. Prior outings without the tabs were with 3 adults and less gas and I got about 49 - 50mph. Today I got 46 or 47. Any thoughts from smart tab owners on the hole settings? I will probably try the middle setting next time to see what that does. Would that setting slow me down or add to the top end? Seems the higher the presure the more it may slow you down. Not sure...but would appreciate any thoughts or experiences from others. Overall a great day yesterday...beautiful sun, a cruise through Newport harbor, waterside restaurant. Could not have been better!

Glad to hear the install went fine & the performance is what you hoped for! The extra weight in the boat of 5 adults will affect your top speed. I have mine set in the 2nd hole & tried the 3rd but found it almost had me plowing a bit. Give it a try though as your boat may perform slightly different than mine.

Thanks Mikey. Based on the improved planing time and the level atitude I am getting with my current smart tab setting...I suspect my boat might plow, too, if set at any higher pressure. I think I will leave it on the second hole for now as it is performing well. Will see what happend with diffetent weights in the boat. I do like what they have done for the boat overall. Handles like a dream and absolutely no porpoising.

Re: First time out with new smart tabs

Hi, I was out for the first time ever in our 2000 Z182 Shabah yesderday.
I installed the same smart tabs as you have a couple of weeks ago.
I set the tabs up into the third, middle hole.
Since this the first boat I have ever had the experience was all new.
Noted the following.
Was able to get up onto a plane quickly.
Top speed was 45-46 MPH at 4500 RPM, (my up trim is not working for some reason, believe I could likely hit closer to 50MPH once I get the trim sorted out).
No slow speed wandering, there was a similar size boat following me through a 10MPH zone and he appeared to be having a very difficult time holding a straight line.
All in all I am very happy with our Shabah and the smart tabs.
Looking forward to a great summer boating.

Greg.

What are smart tabs and where can I go to see a picture of them?

Here's the link to the Nauticus website for Smart Tabs. Lots of info there. The Smart Tabs SX with the 60lb actuators will work just fine on your boat.
