Makes no difference. Whichever's easier to get. The 68,000 uF is a more std value.
Kind regards,

Got bored at work today, started to flip through this 2500 page catalog.. came across this capacitor...
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...?name=P6879-ND
I would imagine that is what everyone else has been installing? I wonder how much shipping would be on that one piece... $20 probably.

Really? Purolator doesnt rip out your gonads via your wallet when shipped in Canada? I know shipping in from the states its like $50+ in brokerage fees. Thanks for the info about the canadian site. Didn't notice that the first time.
EDIT: took another look at the pdf file that was posted. I didn't realize there was more information after the photos... LOL. So the link I posted above was almost pointless. Since all the part numbers were posted in the pdf file.
So what wire was used to attach to the bottom of the capacitor to connect to the posts?

DigiKey has an outlet in Canada, so you shouldn't be hit with any additional charges.
Just solder some 18 or 20 gauge wire onto the terminals.

Hey Rjobe, I purchased a 68,000 uF capacitor from Digi-Key.....do you know if they include wires or do I need to purchase some. If so, what gauge, type, etc do I need to get?
Thanks.

The leads on the capacitor may be long enough to connect it w/o wires. If you need wires, any general purpose wire (e.g. speaker wire, 18 - 26 gauge stranded wire, etc) would work. It's low voltage and low current.
Let me know how it turns out.
Kind regards,
Randy

Hey Randy......on my boat I dont know how to access the fuel gage to install the capacitor. Are you suppose to remove the dash? Or is there a way to remove the gage from the dash? I was looking from the backside and there is only a small space to look into. Anyone have advice?
Thx

Hello AZ!
I installed it from the back of the instrument panel. On my boat, the backrest in the bow seating lifts up to access the instrument panel. The "hole" size I'd say is maybe 5" x 8"... not much room, but I can see the posts of the fuel gage with a flashlight. I did most of the installation work blind and with one hand because it's definately tight. The photo's in the attached documentation were taken through the hole... makes it look a lot bigger, eh?

I finally got the capacitor installed....whew! You were not joking. I had to install it blindly and prior I used a telescoping mirror I purchased from AutoZone and a flashlight. Once I think I determined where positive and negative were......I installed the wires using 5mm nuts. Once it cools down out here, like 7pm, Ill re-check the wiring to make sure I have the right connections. Then Tuesday Im taking her out for some wakeboarding. Let you know how the fuel gage works.
