I have been changing the oil out the dip stick tube for many years and no problems.I use a hand suction pump.Iuse a large plastic jug that I DRILLED A HOLE MIDLLE JUST BIG ENOUGH TO SLIDE THE HOSE IN AND SMALL HOLE TO LET AIR OUT. I SIT THE JUG BY THE MOTOR AND PUMP AWAY.THE JUG WILL HOLD 6 QUARTS PLUS.( THE JUG I USE WAS ANIMAL CRACKER JUG) I HAVE A PICTURE OF MY JUG. WORKS GREAT FOR ME AND NO MESS. GARY G :wink_thumbup:

I agree... A couple of weeks ago my mechanic also wanted to suck the oil out true the dipstick but i told him to pull the plug from the pan and drain it from the bottom and give it a proper flush.. He didnt like the extra work but hey, who's paying the bill right ? ;) When the oil was drained it looked like it was new, really made me happy to see the oil was so clear.. But i also noticed that in the very last cup of oil that came out, there was a slight discoloration; a small swirl of darker fluid.. I probably never know what it was but since it came out with the very very last cup of oil drained from the pan it seems to me that sludge build-up in the engine is definitly a possibility if you always get the oil out true the dipstick. And who cares about the little bit of oil spilled in the bilge, just another good excuse to say the forester goodbye for the evening and spend a few ours in my boat :D |
