Boat Damage
Got a call last night from my boat storage location, the roof came and damage some boats. Not sure how bad the damage is, but the windshield may be toast. Anyone have any ideas about replacing a windshield on a 1990 2000XL? I have not even seen it yet, so I don't know how bad it is.
Thanks RVS  |
Re: Boat Damage
Oh no! Due to snow?
I think your best bet at this point is to hope for the best! |

I hope for your sake it's not bad!!
We had an issue like that happen to the marina I used to store at. I called it the "Rivertowne Massacre". I've attached some pics, we had a really heavy snow and the roof buckled under the weight and came crashing down on some of the most expensive boats in Cincinnati. Snapping radar arches, ripping canvas, busting through hard tops, breaking windows, and causing millions of dollars in damages. It did some considerable damage to some of the old wooden Chris Craft boats that were stored there. Needless to say, the structure was rebuilt a few months later and utilized a much more sturdy roof design and triple reinforced frame structure. |
Re: Boat Damage
Hi, RVS, sorry to hear of your problem. I have that same fear every winter.
My first thought is to get a lawyer and fill a suit against the marina. Remember that Taylor, the maker of our windshields may not be able to get you a replacement at any sort of reasonable cost. Make sure the storage people have their dog in this fight from the get-go. Good luck, let us know how this works out. |
Re: Boat Damage
Yikes!!! That is painful to see just looking at the pictures... I cannot imagine how one would feel if you owned one of those boats!:eek_animated:
RVS... Hope the damage is not too bad. |
Re: Boat Damage
Won't do much good to get a lawyer unless the Marina is negligent in some way. Doubt they caused the snow storm.

Re: Boat Damage
Then the marina or the marina's insurance company sues the builder, the builder sues the manufacturer, and we're off and running up attorney fees.
Let the boat insurance company pay the claim, then they can go after the marina or builder if they think it's worth pursuing. If a boatowner does not have coverage, that's the risk he chose to take. |
Re: Boat Damage
Talked with my boat mechanic/storage provider yeasterday. Damage was minimual and he believes he can fix it (he is that good from other projects I have seen him complete). All the insurance companies are working together to resolve the issue. 10 of the 30 boats were damaged.
Going over on Saturday to see the damage myself so I can talk with my insurance company about the amount of damage and cost of repair. Thanks for everyone's feedback, I will keep everyone informed. RVS |
Re: Boat Damage
Good deal!
In this case it's good not to have the biggest or tallest boat in the marina! |
