New owner seeks help
Hello friends. I have a 1995 Talari Z210. This is my first I/O. A 5.0 with the 2 barrel carb. I believe this is 190HP. What i would love is a copy of an owners manual and any info you may have regarding this boat. I do have a couple of issues with this boat in the two times we have been on the water togetner.One. It seems to take too long to get on plane. Quicksilver prop 48 18278 A41 17P , wot is about 4000rpm. Are the rpms low ? Is the prop correct? It is stainless too. Two. I feel the boat wanders at slow speed. Suggestions? I know this is alot of questions. Be patient with an old geezer new to boating. Thanks for being there.:)

hi robert, i belive the 17'' pitch prop should be about right for your boat, with the 305 v8 it should pop right out and on plane, are you sure your triming the lower unit correctly? before hitting the throttle be sure that it is trimed all the way in [down] , once it trims out [ on plane ] slowly trim your lower unit out, [up ] as you trim it out the speed and rpms will increse, don`t trim it out to much or the bow will start to porpus, and the prop will cavate, try to settle it down at approx 2700 - 3000 rpm , that should be a good crusing speed for your boat, also this will save you a lot of fuel at this speed. All boats will wander at slow speed, this is usually caused by over correcting your boat as it wanders at idle or a little above idle. enjoy and be safe !:wink_thumbup:

Re: New owner seeks help
hi Robert
Welcome aboard! I see that you are a 'silver contributor' to the club so you already have on-line access to all of the available manuals & promotional materials supplied with Mariah boats when they were new. Be aware though that the manuals were very 'generic' and contain very little info on your specific model of boat. As for the low speed wander, a number of our members have installed 'Smart Tabs' by Nauticus. Your boat would probably need the 80# actuators and possibly the S.S. (rather than composite) tabs to gain the most improvement. The tabs have shown to improve planing time and lower planing speed as well as reduce or eliminate the slow speed wander. If you do a site search for Smart Tabs you will find a number of threads outlining various installs and opinions. The cost is around $150-$175 and you can install them yourself if you reasonably handy. As for the prop, i agree with 64*thunderbolt that the 17" is likely the correct prop pitch for your boat but i believe your WOT rpms are a little low as i think the WOT rpm range is 4200-4600 for the 5.0L (someone can correct me here). The 5.0L should provide reasonable performance vs economy for the size & weight of your boat You might want to have the prop checked for a loose hub as that can affect your performance as well as dings / chips etc in the prop blades. I'm assuming that your prop is an aluminum version. Note that a S.S. prop generally provides slightly better performance that an aluminum unit but at a significant increase in price. |

You might consider a 5 blade prop. The difference between 3 and 5 is amazing. It will get you up on a plane and pull skiers up with ease. The High 5 is a great choice. Good luck and I know you will love the Mariah!
