Motor operation with water in fuel tank

I am wondering if someone can inlighten me on why bad gas or water in the fuel tank or line doesn't seem to affect a boat or my boat when idling or at half throttle. Wouldn't water affect the motor running at any range even idling.
I hope someone can explain this to me so i can better understand it.

Re: Motor operation with water in fuel tank

Hello
I had water in my gas & my boat idled a little rough, sputtered on take off, however once I got it going it was pretty good. I took off the fuel seperator and dumped it into a glass jar, It was almost all rusty water, with a little gas on top. I've since added some dry gas and run the tank almost empty before refueling.
