Counter on dash board

I have a beautiful 1999 25 foot Mariah 252 Shabah. We love it. There is a resettable counter on the dash board that occasionally goes a little crazy running up numbers a quite a pace. Other times it sits idle with the same number displayed. I have searched the documents I have for the boat and can find nothing to hint at what it is or what it keeps track of. It certainly appears to be original equipment as the dash panel is recessed for its installation. Any info appreciated.

Odometer. The little paddle wheel on the transom is what tells the numbers to change.

Yep, it's the odometer. Probably the most useless feature on these boats, mine never keeps accurate count!

Aaaactuallllly... I think I need to retract my statement. Now that I look again at it, I believe it is far more accurate as a empty can counter than an odometer. Yes, I think I'll reset the little numbers, start storing my empties in the ski locker and when I winterize the boat, I'll see how close I come to matching up.
