Jumpy temp gauge

I think I might have multiple problems here. 1st, my temp gauge jumps up and down about 40 degrees quickly like it's shorted. Also when I turn the motor off it diesels sometimes. The buzzer is not going off so it's probably not extremely overheating but is the buzzer tied to the temp gauge? Also, how do I test the impeller to see if I am getting proper flow?
Thanks!

Hio imwalton,

I would check the terminal connections on the back of the gauge, and the connection at the Water Temp sender. Clean and re-tighten the connections and see if that fixes your problem. If not, Visit Faria's website ,they have a gauge troubleshooting guide.

The buzzer is connected to a different temp sender that's calibrated for a specific temperature. if the motor temp gets past that setting the buzzer goes off.

I think you need to get that thing into a service facility and have them check. Your alarm might not be functioning properly, you could have a short in your temp line, they can check and replace your impeller, and they can most likely diagnose why it's dieseling too, and most likely all in one visit.

Re: Jumpy temp gauge

Thanks WetWilly. I noticed yesterday when I took it out that a lot of the gauges seem jumpy but mostly the temp. I have read on the forum a lot about grounding so I wonder if that's part of it. And Z250 is right. I'm just wondering what they are going to charge for an all over service. (probably by the hour???) I guess I can ask around for a good repair shop.
