1997 shabah

Hi guys new here to the forum. Anyways looking at a shabah bow rider( non deck boat). It has the Mercrusier 5.7 in it. The guy wants $11500 but is open to offers. Any feedback on this boat? What should I look for?

Thanks,
Joe

Welcome to the board! :wink_thumbup:

The "Jubilee" model is Mariah's deckboat. Mariah's bowriders are called "Talari" and "Shabah" models. Take a look at our gallery and check out the photos of each model. Maybe the seller has it misidentified?

Anyway, the things you need to look for are non-replaceable items. Mariah made many parts in-house at their factory to avoid the demand for outside supplier parts, shipment delays, etc.. When the factory closed, these parts have basically become impossible to find replacements for. They include:

Dashboards, gauge clusters, molded captains chairs, stainless bow rails, lids to storage compartments, gloveboxes, doors, interior appointments, like trim and molding, etc. A lot of these parts are made from vacuum formed ABS plastic and have a woodgrain finish applied to them. These will be just about impossible to find replacements, so repair is your only option. So just make sure those things are in good shape. Interior wise, the seats and things can be reupholstered, but to get the OEM quality, it'll cost you a pretty penny. Mariah used thicker and more durable vinyl than any of the competitors, and the stitching used to hold everything together was the same type they used in NASA's spacesuits.

If you've got a link to photos of the boat, post it up here so we can all take a look at it and make sure everything looks good, and can help you work on a price!

Re: 1997 Jubilee

That's definitely a 210 Shabah, not a Jubilee. Sharp looking boat!! Looks to be in great shape too.

I think he's inflating the HP numbers a bit, they offered that model with a 7.4L v8 (454) which put out 300hp. I think the 5.7L is more around 250. According to the 97 brochure, it states 46-52MPH top speed.

Price might be a little on the high side, check NADA blue book value on it. But if he's open to offers, you might be able to get it at a really nice price!

just saw it. Nice boat....sundeck needs a bit of vinyl repair on the back edge though.

Oh yes question for you guys. When shifting out of neutral to drive is it normal to make a clunking noise?

Hi ATI WS6,

It's normal for the Alpha drives to clunk, but I would have it checked out just to be sure the your particular "clunk" is OK and while your at it, have the rest of the I/O checkout so you don't end up with any surprises shortly after buying it.

You might also want to ask the owner where the center window section went. In the first picture, it's no where to be seen and it should be folded over on the passenger's side of the windshield.

As for the price, I'm with ShabahZ250, unless there are more accessories/toys/addons with this Shabah, his price is a little high, but he does say he's willing to negotiate so that's a plus!

what price are you guys thinking?

Re: 1997 Jubilee

Hi ATI WS6,

It's difficult to state an exact price for any boat/trailer without seeing it first, but seeing how there are a few known visual issues, the center windshield section is missing (finding a replacement will be very difficult at best) and from what you said earlier, the sunpad needs repair and further more, the current owner didn't listing any other possible included items like bow, cockpit ot trailer/storage covers, dual batteries and other nice to have things to consider. it appears that as ShabahZ250 said earlier, it does seem the '97 5.7 LX was rated for 250hp and we don't know whether this Shabah comes with the Alpha or Bravo outdrive.

So base on the Craigs listing description, NADA estimates the value between $8100 to $9100. Add in the trailer and I would say around $10 to $10.5K tops.

If you are really interested in this Mariah, have it checked out by a qualified mechanic to make sure the Sterndrive and other systems are in good working order and check the areas around the Waketower mounting points for signs of stress and don't forget to check out the trailer for wear & tear & rust. :wink_thumbup:

Good luck,
WetWilly
