Muffs? At a store that sells boating supplies? West Marine certainly has them, if you've one of those nearby. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that either Wal*Mart or KMart has them.

Before you go and buy muffs, you need to look at your waterpump. I also have the Bravo III and my water intake is a small port on the bottom of the hull and not on my outdrive. Apparently with the Bravo III, you can go either way. The way to tell is to locate your water pump on the engine(usually on the starboard side bottom front) and there are 2 hoses coming off the back. One should go to your engine(output) and the other will be your input and either go to your outdrive or go around your engine to a valve that is mounted on the engine room floor. If it goes to a valve on the engine room floor, don't put muffs on the outdrive because it won't work.(Believe me, I tried it when I first got my boat!) You will need to get a water flusher that looks like a toilet plunger. They are made for inboard engines, or install a t-valve with a garden hose fitting into your water intake line.

    Hope this helps!

The plunger looking ones are often referred to as, fake-a-lake.

Thanks for the compliment, csterner. I often still smirk when I fire it up.

If you are running a stern drive using a flusher, you should be able to place your hands on the top of the exhaust risers without any discomfort. As mentions previously a sterndrive does not incorporate a weep hole to indicate water flow. Be careful when using a motor flusher they will slide off of the outdrive due to the water pressure from the hose and slick painted surface. I use a duel intake motor flusher since I have a 7.4 and I use bungee cords to prevent the flusher from moving while I run the engine.
