You could find out by letting it slip for a while (without over revving), then pop your sun pad and check for burned rubber smell.

If still no smell, I've got to think the prop ventilating, but still odd that both the 21 and this 19p do the same thing.

I was looking for something else and found this: http://www.mercstuff.com/spunprop.htm

Ventilation is a possibility if exhaust gas is getting outside the prop hub due to the wrong thrust washer or worn outside edge of outdrive. I tried a 21p stainless laser-II on my boat which had ventilation holes and I got a similar problem.

If you set your drive position to half-way between fully down and fully up (not the trailer position, but halfway between the normal full "up" and "down" positions) and hit the throttle, you'll get the same result -- lots of RPMs, lots of wake backwash, rising bow, and maybe a 50/50 chance of getting on plane.

This is likely the reason why it was likely some debris. Weeds or an obtrucion (like Indy says) in the drive travel on that trip may have been the issue. If it does happen again, simply shut off the motor, trailer trim the drive and put it all the way down again. Start er up and see if you have any more problem. :wink_thumbup:
