Anchor Locker
Being a new Maraih owner and never have had a bow anchor locker before, how does everyone store your anchor in this space (hatch at front bow).
Does eveyone just place it in this area, add some padding, etc? Thanks RVS New 1990 2000XL :D |
Re: Anchor Locker
my compartmentis carpeted, i have the anchor tied to the lug inside. It also makes a good trash can for empties till you get back on the trailer

Re: Anchor Locker
Hi RVSwisher,
Our locker is factory lined with felt carpeting and I have about 150' of anchor rope and 10' of chain. I wind the rope first and the chain and anchor sit on top of the rope cushioning them from any interior hull contact, no problems so far :wink_thumbup: WetWilly |
Re: Anchor Locker
^^ What he said. The carpet in mine is starting to fall a bit so I need to do a little work in there this winter, but I do the same. 100' of 1/2" line, 6' of chain and an 8 lb anchor (all of which I just replaced because the old 6 lb anchor was not enough when the water gets rough here). I coil the line and chain around the lug and then set the anchor eye down in the cup at the bottom of the locker. The arms sit across the docking light tubes. The line cushions any banging around in rough seas and the locker cup and light tubes keep the anchor pretty solid in place.
Side note: When I replaced all of this I did my first bit of line splicing to attach the line to the chain instead of using the eye and shackle (which I instead used to attach the line to the lug in the locker). |
Re: Anchor Locker
I have a cuddy (Z225 Davanti) and anchoring means sitting precariously on the bow while getting to the anchor... Has anyone deployed an anchor roller and an electric anchor winch? Would appreciate the details of where you installed it.
Looking at my bow, there isnt much space to put an anchor roller between the anchor compartment and bow tip. Plus there's the bow light in the middle |
Re: Anchor Locker
I am the anchor roller and winch that sits precariously on the bow (mine's a cuddy too). :D

Re: Anchor Locker
Sorry vkrishan, I wasn't laughing at your situation, but rather at AirNavy remark! Years ago, I had a friend doing the same thing as AirNavy's on his ChrisCraft. A large wake hit us and both he and the anchor went into the drink together.... thankfully, he let go before hitting bottom... or I would have had to dive in and save his soggy butt! :big_chuckle: Oh the memories....... Re: Anchor Locker
Well... I was precariously perched on my bow this 4th of July... there were at least 500 other boats around me looking up to see the fireworks at Lanier.. Still wish there's an automatic anchor winch and roller that fits in the anchor locker...

I carry an 8# fluke in my locker on 150' 3/8" with 6' of chain. I knocked a hole in the plastic housing of 1 of my docking lights (replaced them with stainless). The carpeting was falling down but I did the rounds this last spring with some adhesive and fixed that. I slide my anchor in tines first and it slides down and rests snuggly against the lug. I next feed the chain in and then lay the coil of rope on top. On top of that, I keep a couple of dock lines handy.
Additional point on the anchor locker. My cover would flop open when things got choppy. The screws in the hinge eventually stripped out and the cover ended up coming off one time (thankfully it ended up in the bow). I eventually found and installed a latch on it which fit right where the finger hole used to be (Perko Flush 0922). I epoxied some wood (swizzle sticks) into the screw holes in the fiber glass and redrilled the screw holes. No more worries. PS. A side note on anchoring. I also have a backup 13# fluke anchor, 18' chain (3 - 6' sections with clevis'), a 12" anchor buoy, 150' 5/8" anchor braid and an "Anchor Buddy (elastic/spring line)" which I store under the port bow seat. The 13# is a backup should I need it, but I also use it when I want to set up a temporary mooring while camping, houseboating, etc. I set the 13# up on the bouy and drop it aways off shore. When I come in, I attached the boat to the buoy with the Anchor Buddy, bring the boat in shallow to let everyone off, attach a shore line and let out slack and the anchor buddy pulls the boat back to the bouy. Just need to pull the boat back in the shallow with the shore line when we want to use it again. Pretty slick. |
Re: Anchor Locker
Our '94 182 Barchetta doesn't have a dedicated anchor locker. I've got them stored under the port side bow seat. We've a 4-1/2 lb. (2 kg) claw with about 4 feet (1.2m) of chain weighing about 2-1/2 lbs. (1 kg) on 100 feet (30.5m) of line, and a 4-1/2 lb. (2 kg) Danforth on 50 feet (15m) of line. The claw will let us anchor in up to about 20 feet (6m) with a 5:1 scope. The Danforth is the "lunch hook," for anchoring in shallow areas when just hanging out, tho it'd get us by in up to 10 feet (3m) with a 5:1 scope.

Re: Anchor Locker
Hey there,
We've got the bow anchor storage as well. I keep the all the rope stuff in there, along with the anchor rope in a square platic container. Between the anchor and all the rope items we haven't had any issues with stuff moving around at all. Plus the anchor is heavy enough that with everything in there it won't move hardly at all. I was thinking (here we go again with another project) about adding some sort of padding for the docking light housing just to be safe, eventually. -Dave |
