Ever tried taking the top out of it's holder??
Don't get me wrong, I love my 180 Talari, but It's a real pain to pull the convertible top out of it's holder behind the engine. I even enlarged the holes that it sits in.
Anyone discovered a secret technique they would like to share? |
I agree Paul! I've had mine out a few times and determined it isn't worth the effort!
|
convertible top behind engine?
please elaborate! (post some pics) ... lol. |
I pulled mine out one time to see how it goes up. I think the previous owner did the same. ;)
|
I put ours up once in the driveway, major pain to get the legs out of the holes it stores in. Last time I took the family out to the lake we put it up again, wasn't too bad. I just flexed the aluminum legs a bit to clear everything. I think it would be real easy if I undid the little lift cylinder on one side that holds up the engine cover.

I got mine out once by pulling one side up and flexing the legs in. It was a pain but I got it:) I doubt I'll do it again though.

The last owner probably didn't want to destroy it putting it back in! |
is that what those 2 small rectangular holes are under the deck behind the motor byt he anchor lite pole thingie?
|
U got it Straad....back in the corners of the engine hatch....
|
theres no way it will fit in there....LOL
the top is as wide as the boat and those holes arent its simple physics i gotta go try it now tho |
Ok .. someone has to be near their boat to work on it!
I want to see what you guys are talking about here. Personally I dont think my boat has what you guys have and I know my top wont fit under the hatch cover. Unless it bends and I dont know it does.. ROFL. |
Here you go. Snapped fresh this morning:

Mine doesn't have the angled clearance yours does on the sides, it is flat all the way across like yours is above the motor. Then there is a hole on each side for the legs. |
Mine stores at the front of the engine compartment, resting on the carpeted engine enclosure just behind the rear bench. It's still a tight fit on each side, but must not be nearly what you guys describe.
|
well aint that the cat's a**!!! I had no idea that's where the bimini could be stored :o

I think by the time the 99's rolled (or floated!) around, they realized thier bimini stowage system sucked!

I think this design was only with the FULL sunpad boats. My design has the doghouse cover and 2 side jump seats that can be converted into a full sunpad. Unless the legs bend "somewhere" on my bimini, mine sticks out about 3-4inches above the upper engine crossmember pieces. If I remember, I will take a picture of it this weekend. It could also be the bimini I have, isnt the stock one as well ... |
Didnt snap any pics .. but there is NO way my top is going in under the engine compartment hatc area. Must have been something they added in the later years.
Pretty much the floor line continues into the engine area and there is no areas to stuff the legs of the top below the flooring. So for now, we just leave it draped over the engine cover OR on the port side along the seats. |
I just took the cover out this weekend, and found that the easiest way to put it back in is to put the right leg in first while the assembly is rotated clockwise 30 degrees. Keep lowering it until the upper right corner enters the right hole, then move the top assembly further down and to the right so that the corner is well inside the hole . You've just created enough room to move the bottom left tip into the left hole. Maneuver into place, and you're all set.

Hi Tilted,
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that and see if it works out for our Talari. BTW, what model and year Mariah do you have? Thank you, WetWilly |

I added a second battery to my boat (deep cycle to run the tunes while anchored down) so I have to start the left side first because of the big deep cycle on the port side. The main key to getting it in without banging the boat, cussing, or just throwing the thing in the lake is to drop one end in the hole, then pushing to the side to gain the extra room to swing the other side around. You'll actually push part of the curve frame into the hole, but when it's completely in, it will center itself up. Hope this helps and maybe some of you will start using the top now that you know how to get it in and out....easily. |
Re: Ever tried taking the top out of it's holder??
Hmm i took a look at mine and it does have the two rectangular holes in the back under the sunpad but its not even possible because of the gas struts holding the sun pad up. Does everyone else only have one or do they have two? Didnt know if the previous owner added an extra one.
