advice on depth guage
I just got my new to me 96 224 jubilee back from the shop ( replaced the lower trans. cable bellows and gimbal bearing ). The mechanic thinks that the motor and drive are in good shape (a relief since I bought it sight unseen ) but the depth guage dose not seem to work out of the water and I thought that it did read 4 or 5 feet before it went in to the shop.
Should it have a reading out of the water and would it be a through the hull transducer or external mount on the transom? There is what looks to be an axternal spedometer mounted on the transom but the spinner wheel is missing from it could this be an add on or original equipment? |
Re: advice on depth guage
Most likely (not sure with '96) the transducer is a through-hull type. It looks similar to a hockey puck somewhere below the engine. No, they should not read while out of the water, so it may be working just fine.
The paddle wheel on the transom is the trip odometer, not the speedo. The speedo pick-up is on the leading edge of the lower unit. |
