There are oil absorbent products out there to place in the bottom of your bildge that absorb oil but not water. You should also add some bildge soap each time you use the boat. The combination of these two should get rid of most of any lingering oil. If you continue to find additional oil then you will know the answer to question #2...BTW a quart every couple of hours seems excessive to me.

    I have a 1995 7.4L 454 Magnum. The total engine hours are 890; we used the boat 40 hours this past season. The total oil consumption for the 40 hours of use was less than 1 quart. More like a little less than 3/4 of a quart. I feel what you are experiencing is very high, but would like to hear other opinions.

    I would look at the oil pan gasket or drain plug to see if it is dripping. There is no way an engine should use that much oil. If the rings were not done right it could burn that but you would see it in the water or out the exhaust. This explains the oil in the bilge.
