Mariah Z 272 Barchetta 1995

Hello
Looking at a used Mariah Z 272 Barchetta 1995
it has a big block with fuel injection, captains call exhaust, ect.
are these good boats? any downfall?
Also looking at a 1995 Z250, How much difference will the 3' make?
What about the 454 compared to the 350?
I really need a bowrider, and the 27' seems like a plus.
thanks

The first rule of buying a boat is to buy the biggest boat you can afford. The Z250 is a cuddy cabin model, and wasn't available until 1999. If you're talking about the bowrider, that's the Z252, and that wasn't released until 1996.

Here is a link to our Gallery, which has a 95 Z272.

I have a Z272 Barchetta and it ROCKS. I love the room and it handles like a dream. No one can believe a 27' 6000 boat gets out of the hole like she does. If you want to look at my pics they are listed under http://www.mariahownersclub.com/gallery/index.php?c=218

Nothing like hi-jacking someone else's thread. Read the STICKY entitled "Where can i find an Owners Manual" located in the Introductions forum.

Re: Mariah Z 272 Barchetta 1995

I am also the proud owner of a 1995 272 Barchetta. I purchased the boat in September of 2012, from the owner of a marine repair shop. It was his personal boat, which he bought new. When I acquired it, the engine time was 360 on the 7.4, and the boat was immaculate.

As the previous owner did all of the maintenance at his shop, I opted to keep him as my primary go to guy. Last winter, through no fault of his own, one of his tech's reported doing a winterization on my boat, when in fact, none was performed. Needless to say, the block cracked.

The business covered all repairs, and replaced the block with a new one. Stand-Up guy, running a Stand-Up business. My question regarding this is two fold. One...I can't seem to get all of the residual oil from the first mishap out of the bilge. Hand pump....bilge pump....makes no difference. Every time I go to use the boat, there's oil in the bilge. I check the dipstick which shows full. I don't own a trailer so I cant pull it out of the water and let gravity take over. Is this going to be a constant problem?

Number two....The new engine seems to be using about a quart of oil every two hours. Is this a break-in event, or is there a possibility that the new block has a hose or fitting leak somewhere, thus the quart per hour, and the constant oil in the bilge. The previous owner says the oil usage is from break-in, and the bilge problem is from the previous event. I'm not a mechanic and haven't seen any oil leaks, but that doesn't mean its not happening. Any thoughts?
