Weight of a 216z? Fuel consumption?
 

Hi guys,

Am just buying a Mariah 216z (its in need of a some engine work and a good clean!), anyway need to get a trailer for it. Does anyone know the specified weight of it, and its likley real weight, it has a 5.7l + alpha 1. From what I understand it has 270l fuel tank so if full I guess that would add 190kg.

I have found a GREAT deal on a used trailer, but its rated at 1530 KG (3300 lbs), which I guess might just be ok unladen, but if full of fuel then I suspect its to little?

Also anyone any idea of how much fuel this boat/engine combo will burn, I have estimated about 40l/hr flat out, which frightens me a little as we are currently paying about US$2.30 a litre (US$8/gal) here in the UK!

Brochure lists the weight at 3175lbs, and fuel tank capacity at 60 gal (273 liters).

I would say the trailer is too small. Fuel and gear will put you above the capacity of the trailer.

Fuel consumption will depend on how you drive it. At WOT it'll suck the gas like a5 year old drinks Kool-Aid... :eek_animated:

Though I've not actually worked it out actual numbers, my 5.7L gets what I consider to be "reasonable" (i.e. much less than 40L/hr) fuel economy at 2800 to 3200 rpm.

Sorry its a 99 model year I think from memory. I think your right that the trailer is not suitable, I suspect I was being overly optimistic as it was such a good deal, but have now located a larger one rated at 2000kg for a semi reasonable deal, so will go check that out tomorrow.

As for the fuel economy I know the boat as buying it from friends and when they had it, it seemed to drain fuel like Niagra falls (although I have no idea of numbers), but they tended to drive WOT.

Hey, I resemble that remark! :yes_grin: Of course I'm "only" paying $1.20/L! When the "bay" you boat on is 15,000 square km in size it just seems like you should be running WOT all the time... :rolling_laugh:

Seriously though, I've spent lots of time cruising with the family and friends at mid rpms, and the big V8's appetite drops substantially.

Interestingly, I can not find the Z216 in the 99 brochure, now they did offer it in 98 and the weight and capacity is still the same as the 97.

As for the trailer, just make sure the hull supports (we call them bunks if they're long and flat or rollers if they're like small wheels) are spaced properly to support your hull or over time you could cause damage to it. I recommend for your Z216, you look for a trailer that has two rows of bunks per side to properly support the hull.

Here is the type of trailer Mariah recommended for the Z216 showing the four "bunks that support the hull. The trailer in the picture was for the 209 through 211 Mariahs and was rated for 1995kg , where as yours was for the 214 through 226 and was rated at 2177kg so 2000kg should be just fine for your Z216:

Hi guys, just joined the club to, and I pick up my newly acquired Z216 when I get back home in about four weeks. My boat is a 98 so all the information above was very useful to me.

I live in France were the boat will be kept, and work in Kazakhstan in the oil and gas so I feel entitle to burn a little bit of fuel.
