Question regarding fuel injection for 2001 Shabah 182

I'm looking to purchase a 2001 Shabah 182 with the 4.3 MerCruiser V6. The owner says it is fuel injected. Does anyone happen to know if this is accurate? I wasn't sure, but I thought the MerCruiser MPI models didn't come out until after 2001. Perhaps this is a throttle body fuel injection set-up?

Does anyone happen to know which year Shabah 182's came with carb set-up, throttle body injection, or MPI?

Thanks!

Hi Doug

I'll admit i'm not exactly positive here but....i believe they were carbed up to 1997, throttle body injection from 1998 - 2001 & MPI with the new boats.

I'll throw in another curve ball... my '99 is an MPI.

I think EFI and MPI were introduced together, sometime around '97. Of course, good old fashioned carbs are still available today.

In fact, look at the 5.7L - I'm not sure if it's still like this today, but you could choose between the 5.7L carb with 250 HP, 5.7L EFI with 260 HP, and the 350 Mag with 300 HP during my model year (1999).

My 99 218 Shabah is a 5.0 Gi (Now a 5.7) which is TBI. You can do some searching on the Volvo Penta Site to find the engine variations. TBI, MPI and Carb were all avilable in 99

My 2000 is MPI. Do you have any pics of the engine? Either way, supposedly MPI and EFI are more fuel economical.

One way to tell is to look at the intake and see if there is a fuel rail with injectors on both sides of the intake if not pull the flame arrestor (breather) of and look to see if it has two injecters in the middle if so it throttle body if not it is carburated if you have any pictures of the engine i could probably tell what it is good luck and let any of us know how we can help
