Nav light/dash light issue-1995 z272 Barchetta

I have been looking for an owners forum for quite some time and am thrilled to have found this!

I have had my boat since March 2006 and am the fourth owner. I bought it with 323 hours on it and it now has 574. I had all the exterior stickers removed, repainted the top cap and had the bottom repainted/re gel-coted in fall of 06. Looks like a new boat!

Right now I am going through the boat and fixing every little thing i can find on it. One of my issues is a that at night, if the nav lights are on, the volts crash to 10. If I turn them off, then they stay at 13 on the voltmeter. I disconnected the dash lights and and turn on the nav lights and the voltmeter stays at 13. I looked at the wires going to the switch and everything looks fine so I am puzzled as to what is wrong. Also, at times when the engine is running and you turn on the dock lights the engine will cut out for a second. Weird....
I like everything to work, so for me, its something I gotta figure out. Anyone have any ideas on where to look or what could be going on?

I replaced the batteries and alternator which were part of some other issues that I had, but the two things above still remain.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide. i will share some pics on the gallery later on, when I get a chance to take them.

cheers!

It sounds like it could be a bad ground. Make sure you have a solid ground to both the engine block and the ground block under the dash. Loose wires and/or corrosion could be the problem.

Edit -
You might check the main power wire for loose connections and/or corrosion too. I should come off the 50A breaker on the engine and then split under the dash to power the fuse box and the ignition switch.
