Cracked 3.0L block

Hi Everyone

I’m looking for more information about my Diablos motor, I have a 1993 Mariah Diablo 3.0L inboard with the Yamaha stern drive it has less than a 100 hours on it that I got from my grandfather. It’s been stored in a boat house it’s entire life and is in beautiful condition other than the last time it got taken out the motor wasn’t drained before winter which lead to a crack in the block so it’s been sitting for about 3 years. the exhausts off the engine have Yamaha stamped on them but after searching I can’t seem to find any information about a Yamaha 3.0L so I’m curious if I can track down a 3.0L mercruiser would that bolt up all the same? And how hard would it be to do a motor swap myself?

I’m going to the lake this weekend and I’ll try get some photos

Thanks!

Re: Cracked 3.0L block

I believe they are the same blocks. You might have to switch over the electrical, carb setup and some other things, but from my research they are the same blocks.

You should be able to use a Merc block with the rest of your Yamaha accessories. The block and heads are actually made by GM.
