Low voltage

Hello i recently purchased a 1998 z280. When i plug into shore power my volt meter is reading 75 volts. Also my outlets read the same. I took a electric tester and tested the outlet then the end of power cord and got 119. I tried to follow the shore power line inside boat and lose it 3 foot in. Any one have any experience with this problem ? Dose the shore power go straight to the inverter? The inverter is making some loud noise. I could not find the main shore power on the back of the breaker panel. Thank you blayne

Re: Low voltage

On my 99 Z280 the shore power enters the boat on the starboard side and goes directly to the main breaker in the cabin. From there, there is a breaker for the inverter. You may have an issue with the inverter that is dragging your line voltage down to 75V. Try turning off all the ac breakers on the left side of the panel and read the voltage. Turn breakers on one at a time to see which breaker causes the low voltage. Did you look at the back of the shore power outlet. You may have a loose wire or simple corrosion.

Thank you i have checked with the breakers off and on. Yes the back of the outlet looks good. Do you know approximate location it comes onto breaker? My buddy is a electrician and was helping me. We had everything apart and tested everythibg just could never find where the shore power come in.

As far as I know the shore power cable goes from the shore power outlet on the outside of the boat, directly to the main power breaker at the top of the panel inside the cabin, just forward of the head. Believe it is tucked behind the wall of the head.

Thank you for the replys. I spent most of the day taking everything apart to find out the shore power on my boat runs to the inverter and it sends 120 or converts the dc to ac and then sends it to the panel. I had a stuck contact on the inverter. It is up and running 100% now time to fix the bellows.
