Z308 Bilge Pump questions

The bilge pump setup in my 2000 Z308 has always baffled me. When I bought the boat in 2005, I didn't even give the bilge situation second thought. However, a couple of years later when opening the hatch I noticed water in the port side of the bilge but the starboard was dry. Upon further exam noticed that there was no bilge pump on the port half of the bilge. (My particular model has twin 5.7s with a big stinger hump right down the middle of the bilge liner. I noticed also that there were, what I thought, drain holes in the liner next the hump and aft against the transom. Further trial and error found those holes went nowhere.

My solution was to install another bilge pump on the port side.

To make a confusion story end at some point, I have now removed both engines to replace transom plate seals. While the engines are out I am cleaning up the engine rooms and addressing the bilging situation in the boat. Also I was surprised that the Z308 bilge switch on the helm is only on or off and not a three position setting for on/off/auto

I'm after any ideas or experience you have had with the bilge pumps on the Z308. It would be great to find out how your bilge pump or pumps are set up.

Any help, appreciated!!
Bruce
