Re: Need new batteries this year have questions
A starting battery provides more CCA's and less reserve than a similar sized deep cycle battery. Starting batteries are designed to provide quick strong bursts of energy and then be quickly topped up by your alternator. While a Deep cycle battery can provide that brief burst of energy and will work as a starter, they are intended to provide consistent voltage over a longer period of time and are intended mainly for use with marine accessories such as stereo systems, boat electrics etc. Deep cycle batteries can also be drawn down in their voltage and be re-charged more often than a starting battery. And, when recharging a deep cycle battery, you should do it over a longer period of time at a lower voltage or you will shorten the life of the deep cycle battery.
