Remote Oil Filter Kit - Looking for the good, the bad and the ugly!

I am thinking about installing a remote oil filter kit on my 93' 2350Z. It takes a contortionist to remove the filter, and am tired of the clean-up afterwards.

It has a 5.7L Volvo Penta (small block Chevy). It looks like the Derale 15780 is a good option because the oil lines enter the remote filter bracket horizontally, allowing me several different options for locating the remote filter. Derale 15780: Remote Oil Filter Kit Single Filter Mount | JEGS

So, let's hear it! Tell me the good, the bad and the ugly about remote oil filter kits. I don't want to make a mistake by doing this...

Thanks!

I have had no problems with my remote filter on my 502.

Re: Remote Oil Filter Kit - Looking for the good, the bad and the ugly!

I don't know about anything bad about the remote kits, except that possibly a line could break and sudden oil and pressure pressure loss would be very bad for the engine. My boat came with a remote kit installed from the factory but it has the filter facing up and on the top right of the engine. It's messy changing the oil because some oil always escapes the upside down filter no matter how long I wait for it to drain. The one you had in mind doesn't have that problem if you mount it facing down like in the instructions but there may always be a small amount of oil in the lines that won't drain.
