Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
Hello
First post on this site. Im looking into getting a new to me boat. I have it down to a 01 212 Shabah with 5.7 or a 01 crownline 202 with 5.0 tks. Should i be concerened about boat (not motor or drive) parts replacement? Until a free days ago i didn't even know they existed. I was told today that both companies came from Celebrity boats. I have a few questions: 1. What do you think the better boat is. Is in small (300 acre) lakes to larger ones (20,000 acre). 2.concern about parts availability 3. What is the difference between 212 and Z212? Thanks |
Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
Look at some of the promotional info here on the site for the model year you are looking at for starters. Mariah's are very well crafted machines that had features ahead of its time. 2001 was pretty much the last year of the original Mariah before it was sold to Seafox. Most parts are avaliable from the original vendors line Volvo, Mercury, Attwood etc. You will not find off the shelf snap covers (custom order), the dash was custom made by Mariah that year I am pretty sure as well, windshields can be very costly (same goes for any older boat). Z is a model. Typically they have several optional features like different trim, captains call exhaust, etc listed in brochure. Check which engine you really have for the 5.7 verse the 5.0. My 5.7L is the 350 MAG MPI with 300 HP, but there are several different ones out there They are pretty much the same in size thus similar experience on lakes of all sizes, but I would tend to go with the bigger engine. Good luck!

I would be happy to talk to you, but be warned I only have a year of boat ownership under my belt. There are several other members that are MUCH more knowledgeable. I just did alot of research when I joined the Mariah Owners Group and I am only a shade tree mechanic on my best day... I will PM you my information

Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
We took the mariah out today. I thunk I'm going to get it. It needs a new cover for the dash. Are those available anywhere?

Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
Are you talking about the bow or canopy cover? Or the dash itself? No to both. Bow and canopy need to be custom made and cost is dependent on material used. The dash itself were custom made by mariah for certain years.

The original Mariah dashes were injection blow-molded in house.... I am not sure about the later SeaFox Mariahs.... you could call them in South Carolina. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
Still on the fence about what boat to buy. The 01 crown is $1800 under nada value. The 01 212 is at nada value. The bigger motor and tandem trailer are the big draw pionts. The look and value of the crown is the draw there. I know the Mariah is better maintained. Its spent it's life in the same lake. Worked on by the same guy. Both trailers need tires. What are your thoughts?
01 Mariah 212 $9000 01 crownline 202 $9470 |
Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
Get the Mariah and then I would get a full cover made of Sunbrella from RNR.
We've been so happy with our little bit smaller Mariah's build quality and a good full cover is the best investment I've made for it. |
Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
May be a little biased here, but remember you're on a Mariah site...
My advice to you is buy the Mariah. Not knocking Crownlines at all, but in terms of the quality of build there is NOTHING close to an original (pre Seafox) Mariah. You will not be disappointed. Parts availability can be difficult at times, but with this group here nothing is impossible. |
Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
My friend is testing a boat today in Knoxville. He lives in Michigan. He will wait to list his boat until Thursday, after we test the crown. I thought our wss a little odd that his tandem trailer only had brakes on the front axle.

Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
I think it is common for tandem trailers to only have brakes on one axle. Keeps the cost down but still HAS brakes as some places may require on trailer over a certain weight. I think when brakes are "required" there is no standard as to the capability.

Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
Mine only has surge breaks on the front axle as well. Different breaks have different capacity. Some electric breaks are only good for 3500 lbs others 7000

Re: Thinking about getting a 01 212 shabah
My Diablo trailer is not the OE... the OE 'Prestige' (I think) trailer had NO brakes and I did not like that with our original tow vehicle. It also had a very short tongue. The dealer had a use for it and gave me a good enough credit I bought a salt water trailer for mine from Loadmaster. May not be as pretty or color matched like the original but it is still in great condition and I like having the surge brakes and long tongue which make it tow, stop and launch much better.
