Depth Sounder, funny!
This is the second season for me and my Mariah. In that length of time, the depth sounder has never worked. I've looked for fuses, checked for breakers, disconnected wire, etc. And all with no luck. I had finally resolved to just put new one in it. That is, until today...
I took it out, and was busy trying to learn how to drive again, fiddling with switches and things to make sure everything still functioned. Anyhoo....I start flipping the rocker switches on the dash, and the ones marked "acc"...for what accessory I never knew, but the one to the right turned on the damn depth sounder!!! It works perfectly!!! I would have felt like a fool, but my friends were too busy laughing at me, that I just joined in! So, let this be a lesson to ya'll...thats what one of those accessory switches are for! |
Moondance why didn't you ask I could have told you that. :)
Now in return can you tell me what the two knobs to the left of the steering wheel do? (right below the Transom, Courtesy, Dock and Eng Light switches) I took the panel off and the knob on the left appears to connect to a switch and the right is a dimmer. (The gauge lights don't illuminate... I am guessing the left knob is the on switch for the illumination and the right dims) If so, any tips on how to troubleshoot or fix these? Thanks, Brent |
The toggle switch on the left operates all the running lights....but the dimmer...or rheostat....I have no idea what that does! I have an owners manual, it says nothing about all that. All it tells you is goofy generic stuff...like if you fall out, you may drown, cause humans can't breath underwater....damn...glad to have that little tidbit of information...
I"m glad to have my depth meter! |
Hmm, thanks. Do the lights on your gauges work?
|
Well...I seem to remember them working....I don't boat after dark that much. I'll have to give that a look. I'll let you know!

That's a great story Doug, once again proof that you that need to check all the possibilities first!!
|
What really made me look was that I had a friend that just got a 99 Glastron Cruiser, and he flipped on the acc for the depth finder.....I thought...hmm....I wonder....???

Hi guys, don't know if yours is the same but, our 96 Talari has the following three knobs on the left side of the wheel too.
They are (from left to right): Nav lights (turn left for Bow and Stern, right for Stern only) Light dimmer for gauge, compass and switch label panels Bilge blower I also have a switch next to the ACC labeled Depth WetWilly |
My knobs are, from left to right bilge blower, ignition, nav/dash lights. The switch on the right for the lights (poet and didn't know it) is a 3 position switch. Middle is off, left is stern light/gauges, and right is nav/dash/stern lights. My switches are located in the same position as WW only I don't have a fancy dimmer:shakehead: I also have an arrangement of switches on both sides of the steering wheel. The ACC switch on the right side of the dash operates the depth sounder and port side ACC.

Showww me your knobs!
I have toggle switches .. y0 ! http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1162/...38178607_o.jpg The photo above is with the new switches installed (that is why some are black and some are silver). The two outer (horn and blower) switches weren't damaged so I had no need to replace them. I must have the original switch picture on my computer at home. Back on topic w/ the thread... I do have an ACC switch, I think it controlled my radio. Unless my key had to be turned one position to run the radio? I don't remember. My depth sounder consists of my gf hanging over the bow or port side looking down @ the water. :D |
