Re: Intake and Carb for 350
Well, if your like me ,i maybe lucky to get max, 20 hrs a season.
Average life expectancy is around 1500 hrs before a major overhaul on a gasoline marine engine. Maybe more or less depending on how you take care of it, salt or freshwater etc. Its a "project" to do these modifications for sure, most, will advise you to either 1) get a boat with the power you want, or 2) if your attached to the boat, re-power. 383 stroker or even a newer efi 350 is a nice upgrade, but new motors aren't cheap either. Even rebuilds are expensive. Hell, most anything to do with boats are expensive! Haha! Just for the record, those modification packages where found on another forum for people who "blow-up" their motors. Ive never done or had one. Just had the upgrades on hand in case i decided to do it. I've heard guys getting between 350 to 400 hp out of a small block 350 merc. For a project, if i where to do it id find a decent used motor and build. Then sell the stock after it was swapped to re coup some money. I dont think 800 hrs is too much, 1994-2016, thats what 35 hrs a year? Your only at half the motors life, you can still get a lot of time from the motor bud.
