New guy here! in the process.... Z254 Shabah
so I finally found a decent Shabah that was fairly affordable. got a few parts to hunt down and some minor hull and latch repairs to do. but man, even with the lack of maintenance the last owner thought he could get away with,, this boat kicks butt.
the boat had the original plugs, cap and rotor. there was a 16" clearance between the cap points and the Rotor face, not a single mark of wear in the corrosion from the short ride we took, and she still got up to 3000 RPM and 35 MPH with a constant miss. after the new rotor and cap, 3600 RPM and 45 MPH, can't wait to see what she does with new plugs and a full tune... (soon enough,,, NOT!). https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater |

She should hit 50 once your wot is at the ideal range for that motor! What size is that mariah?

Re: New guy here! in the process.... Z254 Shabah
Here's the really cool part. the previous owner wasn't a "Boat Guy", he tried to drive Her like a drag boat, and blew the original drive, the Marina has the record for when they replaced the drive with a brand new drive,,, 20 hours on the new drive. brand new drive and brand new 28P props. I'm getting her for 12K, the owner is paying the marina for the tune up and all maint.. I might have to buy new batteries...I can stress enough how doing your own footwork can find you the boat you want.

Re: New guy here! in the process.... Z254 Shabah
the cool part is the previous owner shelled he original B3 drive, playing drag boat racer. he ended having the Marina install a brand new B3 drive, (he was a very good customer, but not a very knowledgeable boat owner). after paying to replace the drive he was much more light handed on the throttle. the new drive has a provable record of 20 hours. at the same time he had brand new 28P props installed. I'm buying the boat for 12K the contract states the boat must operate within factory specs. (getting it there is the responsibility of the owner) so basically all tune up and maint is paid for by the owner. I might have to replace the batteries as they are a couple of years old.

Re: New guy here! in the process.... Z254 Shabah
Right on! 28p is a tall prop for a boat that big, but then again it has a 454, i had 26's on mine but was over revving at wot, so ordered new through the boys at hills marine in California ( great guys) its a 4x4 set up. Trying them next weekend,
After she's tuned up, see how she runs those props, on something that big, id be running a 26 tops, let us know how she runs bud! Helluva boat! 1998 shabah 180 5.7l 350 mag Bravo III |
Re: New guy here! in the process.... Z254 Shabah
like I posted first, even with the cap rotor and old plugs she still went to plane pretty quick. I think the 28P might just cause a little hesitation in coming to plane, But with enough torque that wont be a problem. especially as she was factory equipped with trim planes. the 7.4 MPI engine puts out 310 HP so if all else fails I will trade out the 28P for a 26P set.
