Buttons on the bow enterance?

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...5e14932f54.jpg

Can anyone tell me what those buttons are for down the sides under the fold away beside the bow seat?

Coded lock buttons for quantum space travel. Be careful with them.

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

The snaps on the top rail around the bow are for a snap on bow cover. There was also a small cover that snapped onto the walk through section that you could use along with the the factory Bimini top to keep rain/water out of the cockpit area. :wink_thumbup:

If you have the OEM Mariah cover for your boat, then you are waaaaay ahead of the rest of us. I can't even get one made.

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

Ya it only had one owner, 1998 but had 230 hrs on it when i bought it. it lived in a boat house so the original snap cover is in good shape. I dont think they used the Bimini cover once.
Theres guys here who do snap covers, mostly tent and awning places but they're expensive. But a worthwhile investment, I couldn't sleep at night knowing there wasn't some sort of button cover for it while its in the water not used. Unless of coarse someone had a boat house, but we don't. Not yet anyway!

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

luckily mine are in awesome shape (never used on my '96) but this winter I'm taking them down to the local shop (Lens Awning and Canvas) who has done work for me in the past and having them measured up/templated so I can get a new set made when these fall apart from actually being used.

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

Ya good idea! Man we can spend a lot of money if we wanted huh? Worst part is, to convince the wife she gets to spend an equal amount on stuff she'd like!! ( mostly home improvements) haha!
My floor carpet isnt bad, but not in the best shape ( few buttons have let go worn thru the carpet) if anything im going to pull the seats out and the back bench, and try and get a new carpet made up. Over the winter storage season.
Have any of you guys just removed the carpet all together? I like to pull it up once in a while and clean under it.

I just bought a 30' roll of Sunbrella material and a commercial snap crimping tool..... Guess what I have on my mind? And I got the Sunbrella roll for $100 WITH the snap tool and dies

Guess I'm lucky... I have the original mooring cover, convertible top, bow area cover, and the little walk-thru filler. And they're all still in perfect shape and still being used. Mariah really used good materials in their builds.

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

Yes i have my original mooring covers, except for the bow area cover. But brian says my buttons are for quantum space travel, im betting the old owner took that cover off and accidentally activated it, and now is somewhere unknown, with that damned bow piece.

Did Brian tell you to disconnect the flux capacitor and pull the plug on the Mr. Fusion unit? That's the only way to mess with those buttons safely, you know. Guess Doc Brown did a stint in Illinois at Mariah before he moved to Hill Valley (or was it after in another timeline?)...

Not SPACE travel..... We're talking TIME travel here..... For instance, I work all week and wish for the weekend but the clock is turning sooooooooo slow. Saturday morning, as soon as I put the key in my Mariah and turn it --------> BOOM..... It's Sunday evening already.... Freaking Mariah time travel..... And DON'T mess with those bow buttons!

It's been a while for this thread....
I finally got off my posterior today, and with my son "Kill Switch" Dan with me, we made plastic sheet templates of the 202 bow cover and cockpit cover...

Funny thing is the cockpit mooring cover snaps are not on the top of the windscreen frame, as I see in other 202s. The snaps for this one are at the bottom of the windscreen frame. That means that my windscreen will be covered BUT now instead of a flat piece of Sunbrella, I have to deal with the curving windscreen.

Cant anyone with an original 98 202 cover trace and send you a pattern? If anyone here needed a pattern for a 180 mooring cover id gladly trace and mail the pattern.

My snaps are on the bottom as well. Makes it real fun to put on. Hunter brings up a good point. I could trace my original mariah cover for you, but I am a 2000. Not sure they are exactly the same.

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

Thanks, John... Appreciate the offer but I'm not sure of the differences in the two years between them. I kind of froze up on the cover project after my "Boat Guru" told me that I would be wasting money and material because I don't know how to sew and don't yet have a heavy commercial sewing machine. He said that if I forged ahead, chances are that it will leak if I don't know how to sew it properly.

Yeah I hear you. I might get one more season out of my original. Just going to have to pay the piper.

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

I'm not sure I understand why so much effort into this unless you use it to block off the bow while running around. For storage I think it's much better to have a full cover. Probably the best purchase I made for my Diablo (it had none of these special covers) was a full cover in Sunbrella fabric, as recommended here, made be Westland purchased from RNR Marine.

It originally seemed to be a little short but after getting wet a few times it stretched a little and fits really well. I spent my time making a little pole support setup and I'm really happy compared to any previous cover I've had. 2-3 that were about $100 but more or less a waste of money compared to this one. This one maybe $4-500 range.

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

I'm one of those lucky few that never really puts my boat into storage. It gets used 10 or 11 months out of the year. The cover just keeps the sun from baking the new interior that's going in.... This type of cover will work for me in most cases. Besides, I already have a full cover for it....

Re: Buttons on the bow enterance?

I guess I'm the unlucky one then since we don't use our boat much more than 10-11 times a year. :( When our kids were small we used it much more.

And here's an update 10 months later (never let it be said that I don't move carefully).... just got word that my new bow and cockpit covers have been completed.... and they look better than stock.... I had them made here in Central Florida by a guy named Jim Cavender of Salty Dog Canvas.....
