Power Pole 360 light has a mind of it's own.

Had the boat out again this weekend, third time of the season. While we were floating around, key in ACC position, the 360 degree light decided to come up on it's own and turn on. The front lights did not come on. I played around with the switch, which still controlled the front lights. I could only get it to go down if I turned the key on and then turn the switch back and forth. This repeated three or four times over an hour or so Saturday afternoon, then it started working correctly again and did for the remainder of the weekend. It's obviously an electrical issue, but even being an elecrical engineer, it's not coming to me where to start my troubleshooting. Any tips?

I would suggest starting with the basics and check your grounds first- then check your positve side connections second.
We had similar issues (ours were while underway though - with light raising only partially when switched on, and then retracting on its own) --but ours turned out to be a failing battery causing a low voltage situation.
Good luck!

Thanks for mentioning the battery. When this occurred, it was probably our longest floating around/swimming/listening to music time. I only have a starting battery, and it's only a month old, but I was wondering if there was any way low voltage could cause this symptom. I sure can't make that make sense in my head though...
