Prop compatibility .....did I mess up?

My recent acquisition of a Talari 209SE has sent me on a quest for new parts and counting the days until spring. The boat came with the stock aluminum prop, still serviceable, but rather beat up, so I decided to find a replacement. I used the Mercury Marine prop selector for a list of recommendations, read some posts on here, and started shopping. One of the recommended props was a Laser II and I found one on Ebay (my favorite yard sale) in like new condition for a reasonable price. Spline count and shaft size were right so I bought it. Upon receiving the prop I realized there is no provision for securing the prop nut retainer. No little indentions to bend the tabs into. I found that the old aluminum prop has a brass/bronze? bushing which is removable and interlocks to the prop via four large splines. The SS prop does not seem to be made this way but rather is a solid casting. I hesitate to beat on it too hard trying to remove something that is not removable so I thought I would seek experienced advice on here. The drive is Alpha 1 gen 2.

Is there an adapter available? did I buy the wrong type of prop? Should I sell it on Ebay where I got it and start over?

Do I need a thrust washer #12-31211A3?

73 views and not a single reply. Thanks anyway, I think I figured it out myself.

Did you get it working? I have yet to use a splined prop. All the props I have worked with personally have the plastic hub kit. In my experiences the hub kit has saved quite a few drive shafts. As for the thrust washer- I have no idea if the two different props use the same washer.

Thanks Moto, I think I have the right part ordered. I will know for sure in a couple of days.
