Re-power 202

Hello all,

Looking down the road at re-powering my 1998 202. Currently we have 5.0 carb. The 305 has been a solid motor for us - we've got about 500 hours on it with no issues. But we run at 4,700 feet so assuming a stock HP of 220 and 3% loss per thousand, I'm limited to approx. 188hp. I'm running a 19 pitch hi-five with descent hull shot and a top end of 45+/-. I'm sure that I could squeeze some performance out of the 5.0 but displacement is king....

The 202's had the 5.7 available....and we all know that the 350 is the same core as the 305. So in theory I should be able to swap out a 5.7 'easily'. Anyone got an approximate cost on this?

What about adding MPI? 350 mag gets me to 300hp...

Has anyone ever dropped a 6.2 in the 202? I'm drooling over the 100hp gain this would be over my existing. Yes, yes, I know I would probably have to go to a bravo drive for this. Which begs the question, could I run the alpha due to my power loss? Alpha's limit out at 300hp.

Purely hypothetical, and totally a wish list item until this motor gives up the ghost BUT just in-case I fine a roll of hundreds....

You could watch some of the powerboat forums like offshoreonly.com an powerboat nation.com for take outs. The folks removing 5.7/6.2s to put in higher HP motors. There are a ton of write ups on this sorta thing out there.
