1998 Z202 Engine Cover/Sundeck Latching
Hi:
I just bought a 1998 Z202 for $2400.00 (the interior is pretty rough) and was wondering what the OEM latching system was for the sundeck/engine cover? Mine was held down with a rope. The interior is pretty sun-baked and cracked. I do not see the rear seat headrests that I see in other boat photos. Thanks |

On my 240 it has snaps on either side of the rear bench and straps attached to the sun deck. That's a shame about the missing headrests as it will be hard to find one for sale. Good luck with your new boat!

Thanks for the info and the headrest offer, which I will gladly take you up on. I have a feeling that I will be able to recreate the engine deck and headrests, if I had an example....
You can email me at [email protected] and we can work out the details. I drove this Z202 exactly once. I filled up the fuel tank and brought it to a boat ramp. Put it in the eater, trimmed the outdrive down, started it and it idled. I put the truck and trailer away and by the time that I got back, it stalled and wouldn't restart. I am guessing clogged fuel pickup in the tank or the fuel/water separater, or the rock fuel filter in the 2bbl Mercarb fuel inlet. Or a dozen other things. Is this the life of a boat owner? |

Hey. I just emailed you for the headrest. If it's been sitting a while you probably have to look over everything. But definitely should change all the filters... Probably clean the tank???? I had a problem with my boat starting for a few months and changed a lot of parts and it turned out to be the ground .... Was frustrated with her but it's all worth it when you get out on the water. My Saltwater therapy. Good news is there's a lot of members that know a lot more than I do and they've been very helpful to me with my Mariah. My first boat...:wink_thumbup:

Re: 1998 Z202 Engine Cover/Sundeck Latching
OK.... Here's where we can all laugh.... After going through the fuel system, ignition system, and just generally resorting to whatever I could think of, I sat there in the driver's seat with my head in my hands..... I was looking down at the throttle. And I thought "Geez I could use a new kill switch cord if I ever get it started". And then I thought about my 16 year old son sitting there at the ramp when the engine stalled.
So I reached down, flipped the kill switch back to run, and the engine fired right up... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
