98 202z swim platform and trim tabs install
1 Attachment(s)
Hello, thoughts on my mockup placement of swim platform and trim tabs.
Also, on the trim tabs, am I correct tgat you are just supposed to let them 'hang' to find the measurement to the screws on the top?Attachment 6081 |
Re: 98 202z swim platform and trim tabs install
I just put smart tabs on my boat but went further outboard since I've seen others do it the same and it's what Nauticus recommends. The last picture in the post below is my recent install and had some comments and pictures from others also. Yes I just let them hang but verified they were very similar to each other before mounting the top pivot.
It looks like for you to do that you would need to modify your swim platform support locations but I think shortening one of the poles (if possible) and placing it on the most outboard section of the hull and also nearer the corner of the platform would be a good idea anyway. With two essentially side by side like you show it I think that one area is overkill on support and others lacking. I would be especially concerned about support near the corners then roughly equally spaced across the back. So one pole much further outboard and maybe one just inside either tab. My thoughts anyway. http://www.mariahownersclub.com/foru...g-img_3810.jpg |
Re: 98 202z swim platform and trim tabs install
I want to put the brackets for raising and lowering on the trim tabs. With the added height I'm not sure I can move them out much further.
I was just going based on this picture from the swim platform manufacturer. I appreciate your input. I might make some changes! |

Re: 98 202z swim platform and trim tabs install
OK when you consider the ladder it almost makes sense why they put the supports like they did. But still too close together IMO since one pole is surely much stronger than the platform it's attached and all the load is really in just a small part of the platform. Maybe the platform is that stiff and strong though.

Put the smart tabs on with the PR500 bracket. I think it will work. Question, if you move the shock on the tab (you know where there's 5 settings) if you try to push it further down - doesn't it add to the stress on the lower bracket? Even when I adjust from pulling them up and down it feels like that bracket is taking a beating.

Re: 98 202z swim platform and trim tabs install
I would assume you installed the top bracket such that if the tab were in it's fully down position and the upper bracket in it's lowered and active position the shock is uncompressed or was just rotated into position against the transom to mark the hole locations.?
If so I don't imagine how you would have any problems. |
Re: 98 202z swim platform and trim tabs install
TN yes exactly like the directions. After the sealant cured I no longer see deflection in the plate attached to the transom. Fits together and the both operate nicely now.
Finished bracket install for the swim deck. I ended up with 5" between the supports. Would have liked to go more but the ladder was in the way and I wanted to stay symmetrical. Pictures next week after final install Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |
