Power engine hatch question ?

I have a 1996 Shabah Z255 and the engine hatch takes forever to open and after about 6-8" it completely stops and won't open anymore? Is there anything I can do to make it move a little faster and open farther? Any help would be appreciated. I have greases the fittings on each motor but that didn't help at all.

Thanks

Brad

One more question is how do I know when the electric motors are full with grease? I pit grease in but don't know if they are full.

Hi TDPtopcop,
I have had similar problems with my 1998 301 Mariah but it only has one motor operated larger lift cylinder. The basic problem has been grease migrating into the motor section from the gear case. The grease gets on the armature in the area where the brushes contact. The grease either insulates the brushes from making contact or causes arcing(noted by burn spots). I have to clean it up every couple of years. I put a minimal amount of grease in the housing by hand rather than through the grease fitting. I am not sure what the effects are with two lift cylinders... Do they lockup when one works and the other does not, does one drag the other one down?

Nope at about 6-8" they both stop no movement nada. I am going to try cleaning all the contacts as well as checking wires to see if they are all good no corrosion. Then next step is to test 12v straight from battery. In searching some say it's not a full 12v from switch to motors.

Also wanted to add that when boat is running it goes up faster and farther.

Harris,

You were right grease had migrated in. I am now cleaning but seems I will have another problem getting back together. I have posted another help here with pics.. It looks like there are springs that go inside of the copper housing and the black piece then slides in after. Can't seem to keep them inside of the copper housing as springs keep punshing them out.
